Everyone wants their business to be successful.  And success looks different for each business and individual.  However, there are a few key elements that can help any business find the success they are looking for.

how to achieve success in businessOur CEO and Founder, Jessica Chen, recently hosted a Soulcast Media | LIVE event on LinkedIn where she interviewed Dean Karrel, a career and executive coach, sales trainer, a LinkedIn Learning Instructor, and the author of the book Mastering the Basics: Simple Lessons For Achieving Success In Business.

They shared key tips and personal experiences for how to achieve success in business.  

 

1. Networking For Success

Whether you are new to business or not, reaching out and connecting with people is a universal and an essential element for any business success.  The key to reaching out and connecting is to truly be interested in learning about the other person and what they do. It’s not trying to sell and be pushy.

Meeting people and engaging with others is critically important. In fact, the chances of you closing a potential deal (or even an idea!) goes up if the person you are selling to feels like you have invested time and energy into them. Truth is, people don’t want to feel pressured into doing anything.  This is why real connections will go a long way to help you achieve success in business.

2. Maximizing And Enhancing The Skills You Were Born With

We were all born with certain skills that come naturally to us.  We can learn other skills as well, but both innate and learned skills take time to hone and perfect. 

That is because we change, our environment changes, and circumstances change as well. It’s why we always have to be flexible and agile. The skills you had when you were twenty will be refined as a thirty-five-year-old.  

If you want to know how to achieve success in business, you will want to focus on what you are naturally good at and continue to level up. This means, if you are a fantastic macro-thinker, offer support cross-functionally to help others think bigger picture. Or, if you’re a great analytical thinker, offer your insight as you help other colleagues decipher numbers and data. This is your unique value-add and a great way for others to know you.

Look at what you are good at and lean into getting better at that while learning new skills along the way.

 

3. Have Confidence In Yourself

Confidence comes from within. Feeling comfortable with who you are will help you engage, speak in front of people, pitch your business to investors and so much more! 

Sometimes feeling confident engaging with others, especially strangers, can be difficult and that’s okay!  Try practicing a few strategies to help calm your nerves

  • Keep your introductory sentences short
  • Rehearse your intro or elevator pitch
  • Take a few deep breaths

Remember, when you are confident in yourself and present yourself that way, others will feel more confident in you! In the end, being authentic, maximizing your own natural abilities, and having confidence in yourself will help you achieve the success you are looking for in business and in life!
