BOARD OF COMMUNICATORS – MEET Ann Kerian

We are thrilled to introduce you to one of our Board of Communicators members, Ann Kerian. We spoke with Ann about why she is excited to be on our Board Of Communicators and her communication approach.

1. What’s your approach to helping folks improve their communications confidence?
The old adage “practice makes perfect” really applies to communication.  The confidence comes from doing it – over and over and over again.  We can’t be confident communicators if we’re not communicating – verbally!  If we do all our communication on a keyboard, it’s going to be more challenging to translate that into interpersonal communication.

2. Why do you think communication is so important for career success?
The best communicators become leaders.  Leaders have an easier time finding career success.  If we can communicate clearly and concisely – we can save time and money because we won’t have to repeat ourselves and our employees and peers will be empowered to succeed as well.

3. In your experience, why do people struggle with communications?
People struggle with communication because of a number of barriers.  It could be that they are shy and don’t like to talk in front of people.  They may have a hard time relaying their thoughts and feelings, so they hesitate to try.  But all of this can be changed with hard work and practice.

4. What do you love most when working with clients on speaking?
I love seeing my clients evolve right before my eyes!  I love to hear the stories of a successful presentation or conversation that they never thought would be possible.

5. Please share your communications growth story.
I was born to communicate.  I used to use my hairbrush as a microphone when I was a little girl.  So, my parents knew I was meant for something in communication.  It turned out that I became a news anchor/reporter and then easily transitioned that experience into a career as a motivational speaker.
