Finding Work-Life-Happiness

Most of us are looking to find work-life-happiness. But what does it really mean to get the balance and fulfillment from our careers and our personal lives? In this week’s newsletter, our Founder & CEO, Jessica Chen, chats with the Founder & CEO of LightWorks, Sally Wolf, as she shares how to find work-life-happiness.

Sally –  I vividly remember the moment I received one of my cancer diagnoses. Because it was a day in which I heard the news no one would want, which was that my cancer had metastasized, which makes it a stage four cancer. But I also remember being with a friend when I got that call. So I was grateful that I wasn’t alone in that moment. But actually, that day was full of lots of little moments of awesome light.

And that requires the ability to tune into gratitude. To say, I am grateful for this. I would not have chosen this thing that happened, and also, at the same time, it’s both.

And I think that is the dance we need to ask ourselves to do in many of these difficult moments. 

Our brains have tens of thousands of thoughts a day, most of them unconscious, and an incredibly high number of them have a negative element to them.

It’s what kept us safe, right?

And so reframing is important because how often do we say something like, I feel overwhelmed, I feel stressed, or I don’t want to feel stressed. What happens is our bodies are literally listening to our internal dialogue, and it’s hearing the words stress or overwhelm.

What if we said, I desire balance? I desire happiness. I desire calm.  

So all these things come together because when we learn how to coach ourselves effectively or tune into our inner emotional dialogue, our guts have existed far longer than these overthinking brains that you and I and all of our listeners have. We learn to tune into our bodies better.

We really know what we want. I think a lot more than what we think our brains tell us.
